What is papain used for?

Papain is most notably used as a digestive aid, for immune system support and as a resistance booster to fungus and redness. It is a digestive enzyme that is extracted from the papaya tree.
Papain offers antioxidants and helps to break down toxins and tough protein fibers. Natives of South America use this digestive enzyme to help break down fibers when they consume meat.
Papain may also be effective for shingles, a sore or swollen throat, runny nose, diarrhea, hay fever, psoriasis, infected wounds, sores, ulcers, intestinal worms and even cancer; however, there is not enough evidence to rate the exact level of effectiveness.
