PAR38 light bulbs are reflector bulbs used for track lighting, recessed can ceiling lights, retail display lights and general household lighting. The PAR in PAR38 stands for parabolic aluminized reflector. The 38 means the bulb is 38 eighths of an inch or 4.75 inches in front diameter.
PAR 38 bulbs are made in halogen, compact fluorescent and LED models to provide energy-saving options. Halogen PAR38 bulbs are made from quartz capsules and contain cooler gases to reduce heat. They have an expected lifespan of up to 6,000 hours. LED PAR38 bulbs cut energy costs by 90 percent in comparison to halogen bulbs. They provide lower heat emissions and have a lifespan of up to 70,000 hours.
