How do parakeets mate?
By Forinfos - 19/12/2025 - 0 comments
A male parakeet mounts the back of the female, who moves her tail aside so that both sexual organs, or cloacae, rub together and sperm is transferred. Parakeets mate numerous times during fertile periods to ensure successful insemination.
The pre-mating ritual is playful, and parakeets chirp happily during mating. Their union is referred to as a "cloaca kiss." Fertilized eggs are laid, one every other day, within a week. A clutch of four to six babies hatch after 17 to 20 days. For approximately three weeks, the male parakeet provides food for the hen, who in turn feeds the chicks. The chicks are weaned between five and six weeks.
