More than half of the world's known natural geysers are located in Yellowstone National Park. For this and other reasons, Yellowstone is designated not only as a national park but also as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its importance to the world in general and not just to citizens of the United States.
In total, Yellowstone has more than 10,000 examples of geothermal features such as geysers, including the famous Old Faithful, a geyser that erupts on a predictable schedule. The National Park Service has installed features such as boardwalks to allow visitors to get an up-close view of the park's geothermal features without potentially doing harm to themselves or the natural landscape.
