What part of the flower becomes the fruit?

The fruit of any flower is the ripened ovary of the flower. The ovary contains seeds, and after the plant is fertilized, the fruit begins to grow around the seeds, protecting them.
All fruits begin as a seed. Within this seed is a very tiny embryo that is waiting to grow. When conditions are right, the embryo begins to emerge from the seed. Once flowers develop, they contain a number of parts including the female part, the pistil. The ovary is contained within the pistil and becomes fertilized when pollen lands on the top of the pistil, an area called the stamen. Once fertilized, the ovary grows and turns into fruit.
