To patch jeans, first trim the loose thread around the hole. Iron a fusible patch to the affected area, and sew it to reinforce the repair.
- Trim loose thread
Use a pair of scissors to trim any loose white threads around the hole. Ensure that the edge is as smooth as possible.
- Chalk off the damaged area
Mark the area around the hole using tailor’s chalk. Leave a 1-inch border around the tear. Cut a piece of fusible denim according to your measurements. Use fusible denim that closely resembles your pair of jeans.
- Iron the patch to the jeans
Turn your jeans inside-out before ironing the denim patch to the affected area. Ensure that the patch is facing cotton-side down before ironing. Set your iron to the steam setting and iron from side to side for at least one minute. Turn the jeans right-side-out and repeat on the outside. Allow the patch to cool.
- Stitch the patch
Turn the jeans inside-out and use a sewing machine to stitch the patch in place. Repeat the process on the other side. Use thread that matches your jeans as close as possible.
- Trim loose thread
Carefully trim loose thread on both sides of the patch. Press the patch again for the best result.
