Paul Mitchell does not own the Patron brand of tequila, which is produced by Patron Spirits. John Paul DeJoria, co-founder of hair care company John Paul Mitchell Systems, is a co-owner of Patron Spirits. Founded in 1989, Patron Spirits produces nine varieties of tequila as of 2014.

John Paul DeJoria and Paul Mitchell started John Paul Mitchell Systems in 1980. John Paul DeJoria gained full control of the company in 1989 after Mitchell died. John Paul Mitchell Systems currently produces over 100 hair care products distributed in 87 countries. John Paul DeJoria also owns additional companies, including DeJoria Diamonds and John Paul Pet.
