There is a significant generational gap with regard to attitudes about body piercings, according to the Denver Business Journal. Young adults are overwhelmingly positive about body piercings, while those over 40 are more likely to see non-ear piercings as negative.
A 2010 study found that both male and female patients overwhelmingly disapprove of healthcare professionals with body piercings, regardless of sex, according to the American Journal of Nursing. Even though 40 percent of adults under 40 have piercings in a location other than the ear lobes, there is still widespread societal and professional disapproval for these piercings, according to the Denver Business Journal.
