What percentage of cars sold are hybrids?

In 2014 3 percent of automobiles sold in the United States were hybrids. That figure was down from 3.3 percent the previous year, which marked the peak for domestic hybrid sales.
The hybrid market share declined from 2009 to 2010 the first time, and then again from 2013 to 2014, prompting some auto experts to claim the cars reached their sales peak in 2013. They say plug-in electric cars have become more efficient than hybrids, leading to their likely continued increased market share. Toyota, which launched the first hybrid, the Prius, in 1997, added three new versions of the model, including a plug-in hybrid in 2012.
