How does a person change a shower head?

Use an adjustable wrench to remove the shower head counterclockwise, place tape the threads of the shower arm and screw the new shower head into place clockwise. A pair of slip-joint pliers also used to grip the shower arm can keep it in place while turning the shower head.

Replacing a shower head takes only a few steps to complete.

1. Remove the old shower head
Grip the base of the old shower head with an adjustable wrench, while also gripping the shower arm with a pair of pliers. Use the pliers to hold the shower arm in place while turning the shower head counter-clockwise with the wrench. Turn until the shower head comes off.
2. Wrap shower arm threads
Inspect the inside of the shower arm and threads for debris. Use a clean rag to wipe it clean. Wrap the threads of the shower arm with Teflon tape in a clockwise direction about two to three times. Smooth the tape over the threads.
3. Install new shower head
Turn the new shower head around the end of the shower arm in a clockwise motion. If the shower arm is turning with the shower head, use the pliers to hold it in place. Turn until the shower head won't turn anymore.
4. Check for leaks
Turn on the shower and watch the base of the shower head to see if any water is leaking out. If it is leaking, tighten the shower head a bit more until it stops leaking when the shower is running.
