The major component needed to connect a VCR to a PC in order to digitally capture old VHS tapes is a video capture device. The video capture device may come in the form of a TV tuner card or a USB capture device; the latter is the more common method.
The video capture device converts the composite or S-Video output into a digital signal that it sends to the PC via a USB connection. It connects to the VCR by means of the composite video and audio outputs of the VCR. This method of digital conversion will allow the user to edit and compile files.
