The national flower of Peru is the cantuta, also known as the "Inca Magic Flower." The flower is native to Peru and Bolivia, and is found at elevations of 3,900 to 12,400 feet in the Andes Mountain region.
The flower may be white, yellow, pink or red in color. It is elongated and bell-shaped, with the bushy plant on which the flower is found reaching heights of 6.5 to 10 feet. The cantuta was a popular ceremonial flower during the Incan Empire and is still commonly used in Peruvian funerals. Natives also claim that the stem and leaves have strong medicinal properties in treating cough, jaundice and inflammation of the eyes.
