To care for a cat, you need food, cat litter, food and water bowls, a collar and a pet tag. You should schedule regular veterinarian visits to keep the cat healthy and up-to-date on all vaccinations. You should also play with her often to keep her mind and body active.
- Provide food and water
Purchase cat food that meets your cat's nutritional needs. You can keep her bowl filled with dry food, or ask your veterinarian how often to feed the cat. Make sure your cat always has water.
- Provide a clean litter box
Keep your cat's litter box in a quiet, private place, and show your cat where it is. Your cat keeps herself clean and instinctively uses the box, but make sure you clean and scoop it at least once a day.
- Purchase a collar and tag
Purchase a collar and pet tag for your cat so that if she happens to wander off, someone can easily identify who the cat belongs to and ensure she has been vaccinated.
- Schedule veterinarian visits
Take your cat to the veterinarian at least once a year to keep her up-to-date on her vaccinations. Also take your cat to the veterinarian if you notice any strange behavior or if your cat appears to be ill. You should also consider getting your cat spayed or neutered.
- Play with the cat
Play with your cat often. Purchase or create toys to keep her entertained and occupied. Toys provide an outlet for instincts that might otherwise lead to destruction of other household items. Playing with your cat fosters trust and also stimulates the cat both physically and mentally.
- Groom the cat
Groom your cat often. Cats keep themselves clean, but it is important to groom your cat regularly so that het nails do not become too long and to prevent other issues with her skin or fur.
