Most chinchillas do not bite unless they become stressed. Chinchillas have high energy and need constant interaction. Without it, environmental stress can lead to aggression.
Like many pets, chinchillas are not aggressive unless they are stressed or threatened. They do not have a tendency to be violent with humans or other animals but are excited easily. The most common reason a chinchilla bites or becomes aggressive is if it is an alpha male. This type of chinchilla displays strong dominant behavior and, in extreme cases, may bite humans or other chinchillas, although it is not an attempt to harm them.
