What is Doberman ear posting?

Doberman ear posting is the technique used hold the dogs' ears upright after they have been cropped in order to establish the ears in a permanent upright position. Dobermans are born with floppy ears. The upright and pointed ears commonly associated with the breed are created for aesthetic purposes.
The posting of the ears is done following the cropping surgery procedure. The posting is performed using a sponge dowel, a backing rod and a tampon or some other material that can be used to hold the ear upright while the cartilage hardens. The posts are kept in place for a period of a few weeks to a couple of months.
