What is the lifespan of a peacock?

Peacocks and peahens, as the less colorful females of the species are called, can live in the wild for up to 20 years. Domesticated peafowl have been known to live as long as 40 to 50 years. Peafowl are omnivores and are hunted by large cats, eagles and mongooses.

The average peacock's tail has a length of 5 feet and contains over 100 feathers. Peahens choose a suitable mate based on the color and size of its plumage. A healthy male peacock typically has a harem made up of several peahens. Peahens gather in groups called parties and sleep in trees as a defense against predation.
