How many babies does a female chameleon have?
By Forinfos - 28/05/2026 - 0 comments
Female chameleons lay between 12 and 80 eggs per clutch, with most species laying between 40 and 50. The female buries the eggs in moist soil or sand and the sun warms the eggs until they are ready to hatch.
Some female chameleons may lay infertile clutches without another male present. Such eggs are yellowish in color, while fertile eggs are bright white. While most fertile eggs hatch after an incubation period of 150 to 200 days, some may take as long as 11 months. According to the National Wildlife Federation, the babies are well-developed and lively at the time of hatching and born with the survival skills they need, without ever meeting their parents.
