What is a marine toad?

Also known as the cane toad or giant toad, the marine toad is a land-dwelling toad native to Central and South America. The toad spends its time in the region's subtropical forests and has also been introduced to non-native areas as a means of pest control for crops.
The species may be any variety of black, brown, green, gray and tan in color and reaches an average of 4 to 6 inches in size. Though it feeds primarily on insects, it has been known to prey on birds, reptiles, rodents and other amphibians. A toxic skin with poison glands protects the marine toad from predators.
