What is the name of a male deer?

Adult male deers are referred to as bucks. Before they reach adulthood, male baby deer, along with female baby deer, are known as fawns.

Bucks are distinguishable from does (adult female deer) by the presence of large antlers that protrude from the tops of their heads. These antlers are used in part to compete with other bucks for mating privileges with available does. Bucks can end up mating with multiple does in a single mating period. After this part of the child-rearing process is over, bucks strike out on their own; they do not interact with their offspring.
