Do rabbits eat their babies?

Rabbits do not eat their babies, according to the House Rabbit Society. After birthing baby bunnies, a mother rabbit eats the afterbirth because it is rich in nutrients, and this discourages predators from finding the nest.
A mother rabbit may inadvertently injure her babies, also known as kits, by scratching them with her claws or if the nesting box is too small. Also, she may be stressed from too much human activity around her or, if she and her babies are housed outside, by scenting predators. If the mother rabbit is very young or malnourished, she may abandon her kits.
