How do rabbits protect themselves?

Rabbits protect themselves by biting and kicking. Some smaller brush rabbits can also climb trees to escape from predators, but their best defense is their speed.

Rabbits, by nature, are timid animals with excellent vision and hearing, and they prefer to stay hidden in underbrush and burrows. A mother rabbit has the ability to fend off a snake or another animal twice her size when she is trying to protect her young. Because wild rabbits can be quite brutal when they are cornered or trying to protect themselves, it's not a good idea to pick one up or try to catch it.
