How do you treat fleas?

Treat fleas by selecting a high-quality flea shampoo, placing your pet in a bathtub, wetting your pet's neck area, thoroughly shampooing the neck area, and then shampooing the rest of your pet's body. Rinse the shampoo off, and follow up with a conditioning rinse.
- Select the right flea shampoo
Ask your veterinarian for the appropriate type of pet shampoo to use on your pet, as some products may be toxic to certain sizes and species of animal.
- Prepare the bath
Place a rubber mat or towel in the tub to keep your pet from slipping. Turn the faucet on, and set the water to a lukewarm temperature. Place your pet in the bathtub, using one hand to keep the animal still.
- Shampoo your pet
Wet your pet's neck area with the lukewarm water. Apply the flea shampoo on just the neck area in the amount that the instructions recommend, and work it into a lather. Wet the rest of your pet's body, and apply the shampoo, focusing on problematic areas where your pet has been itching. Let the shampoo sit for a few minutes
- Rinse the shampoo
Using lukewarm water, thoroughly rinse your pet.
- Apply conditioner
Follow the shampoo with an appropriate pet conditioner, as flea shampoo can be very drying to an animal's coat and skin. Rinse off the conditioner. Use thick, absorbent towels to dry your pet.
