Pewter touch marks are the marks that a pewterer puts on any goods he makes. These touch marks are essentially the pewterer's trademark, according to The Pewter Society.
Touch marks identify the pewterer. The marks could be pictures, numbers or letters. The touch marks may have the pewterer's initials or his name. If there is a date shown on the mark, this date would be when the pewterer started his business. Not all marks found on pewter pieces are touch marks. Other marks found are pseudo-hallmarks, quality marks, labels and numbers. Capacity and verification marks are found on drinking items.
