What are some facts about the pharaoh Menes?

Menes was the first pharaoh of unified Egypt and Egyptologists place his reign somewhere between 3100 and 3050 BC. He is famous for uniting Upper and Lower Egypt and founding the first dynasty of Egypt.

It is possible that Menes was not the only name of the pharaoh, with Egyptologists finding evidence that he could be the same person as the pharaohs Narmer or Aha. Historians credit Menes with numerous administrative measures and attribute to him the founding of Memphis, which became the capital of the kingdom. A third-century-BCE Egyptian historian, Manetho, claims that Menes was killed by a hippopotamus after reigning for 62 years.
