Do plant cells have centrioles?

Centrioles are absent from the cells of higher plant forms, but do appear in lower plant forms, such as chlamydomonas, which is a genus of green algae. In lower plant forms, such as cilia and flagella, centrioles are referred to as basal bodies.

In most animal cells, centrioles function as a pair. In flagella and cilia, a centriole functions as a single basal cell at the base of each structure. This structure forms microtubules. These microtubules make up a good degree of the cilia and flagella. The centriole applies direction and regulation over the movement of the cilia and flagella.
