When do you plant kale?

Kale can be planted anytime from early spring to early summer. If kale is planted late in the summer, it can be harvested up until the first frost.
Plant the seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep in well drained, light soil. After about two weeks, thin out the seedlings so they are 8 to 12 inches apart. Water the plants regularly, but do not overwater them. Mulch the soil around the plants heavily after the first hard frost and the kale plants may continue to produce leaves throughout the winter. The chill of a light frost or snow improves the flavor or kale.
