A PLC simulator is a software suite that facilitates learning and understanding PLCs, which stands for programmable logic controllers. With a PLC simulator, a user can create a PLC software code and scan the execution of the code.

With the software configured in run mode, a program can be scanned as would happen when running a real PLC. An additional advantage of using PLC simulators is that the animated simulations that provide real time responses to the various inputs to the program. The real time outputs provided by the program help present factual problems to the learner, thereby enabling her to solve real world problems. The software can often be downloaded for free.
