Are there polar bears in Antarctica?

There are no polar bears found in Antarctica. Polar bears are indigenous to the Arctic Circle, which is located at the North Pole. Antarctica is located at the South Pole.

Polar bear habitats extend as far south as Newfoundland Island, but no further. There are an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears in the world, all found in the wild near the Arctic Circle region.

The habitat of the polar bear includes edges of packed ice. From underneath the ice, seals emerge and become the prey of the polar bear. When the seal population drops, polar bears must move to find food, often thousands of miles.
