Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer resin that has the chemical designator C3H6. Karl Rehn and Giulio Natta developed it in 1954, and it has household, commercial and industrial applications.
The uses of polypropylene include the production of plastic toys, automobile parts, laboratory equipment, loudspeakers and book bindings as well as carpeting and upholstery. The absence of Bisphenol A, or BPA, and the high melting point of polypropylene make it suitable for use in reusable food containers, which need to withstand microwave and dishwasher use. It resists mold and does not absorb water. It is inexpensive, stain-resistant and non-toxic and does not readily conduct electricity.
