What are some popular oil-based primers?

As of 2015, Kilz's Original Interior Oil-Base Primer, Sealer & Stainblocker and Zinsser's Cover Stain Oil-Base Interior & Exterior Primer are popular oil-based primers, according to HomeDepot.com. Both are white, tintable primers that seal in odors and block pre-existing stains, including water, smoke and tannin stains.

You can apply these two primers under and over both oil and latex paints. Kilz's Original primer is suitable for most interior surfaces, including wood, brick, metal and drywall plaster. It is resistant to mildew growth and sands easily. Zinsser's Cover Stain adheres to any interior or exterior surface and does not require you to sand surfaces prior to application.
