When a key is turned off in a vehicle, it is in the number 2 position. The number 2 position is the default ignition setting on all types of vehicles.
There are four positions used on a ignition switch. Each position gives power to one or more of the devices on the vehicle. The number 1 position is used for the vehicle's accessories and turns on the radio. The number 3 position is used to turn on the rest of the accessories of a car, including navigation and computer systems. The forth position on an ignition switch is only used to turn on the vehicle's engine.
