What are some predators of the stingray?

Predators of the stingray are sharks, seals, sea lions, carnivorous fish and humans. Stingrays use their flattened bodies to their advantage by laying on the sea floor to hide from predators.

Stingrays are found in the shallow coastal waters of temperate seas. Their color reflects the sea's floor and camouflages them. Stingrays have eyes on their dorsal side, while the mouth, nostrils and gill slits are located on their underbelly. They have a razor-sharp, barbed or serrated stinger on the end of the tail that they use to capture prey. They eat crabs, molluscs, clams, oysters, snails and fish. The size of the stingray depends on the species. Stingrays have a lifespan of 15 to 25 years.
