Prednisolone eye drops are used to treat swelling and inflammation associated with injury or other medical conditions, explains WebMD. Prednisolone works by decreasing swelling, itching and redness in the eyes.

The most common side effect associated with prednisolone is stinging or itching in the eye, lasting for up to two minutes after applying the medicine, states WebMD. If the stinging persists or gets worse, WebMD advises the user to call the doctor. Users can experience blurred vision, ocular irritation, or the feeling that there is a foreign body inside of the eye, notes Drugs.com. This medicine increases a person's risk of developing a secondary bacterial, viral or fungal infection around the eye.
