Which president claimed he saw a U.F.O.?

President Jimmy Carter is the subject of an anecdote in which he spotted an unidentified flying object (UFO) in the sky prior to his ascension to the presidency. He actually filed a formal report of the incident, which took place in 1969, with the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP).

This experience led Mr. Carter to vow to release any and all government information about UFOs to the public if he were to be elected president. However, once he was elected, President Carter noted that this promise would be hard to follow through thanks to the sensitive nature of much of the government's information about UFO sightings.
