Pro bono family lawyers take on cases that involve child custody, visitation rights and the payment of child support for free for individuals who cannot afford the legal services, states Pro Bono Project. These family lawyers also take on cases regarding domestic abuse, parentage actions, dissolution and separation.
To qualify for pro bono services, clients have to prove their income level and value of their property, states Lawyers.com. Being elderly or the victim of abuse also qualifies people for pro bono legal work. In some areas, bar associations hold self-help clinics that allow people to ask questions and get help filing legal paperwork.
