What procedures does the University Interscholastic League use to score marching bands?

The University Interscholastic League uses a composite score ranking system to score marching bands. A judging panel that consists of five judges, including three music judges and two marching execution judges, determines the scores.

During a marching band contest, each judge gives each marching band a raw score. At the end of the contest, each judge then ranks the marching bands according to their raw scores, so that the band with the highest raw score is ranked first, the band with the next highest raw score is ranked second and so on. The five judges then add the ranks for each band to calculate the composite score for that band. The band with the lowest composite score wins the contest.
