When is the production of the VW Type 2 ending?
By Forinfos - 12/02/2026 - 0 comments
Production of the Volkswagen Type 2 ended on December 31, 2013. Brazil was the last country where Volkswagen made the Type 2, and production ceased after new Brazilian safety regulations went into effect.
Volkswagen brought the production of the Type 2 to an end after deciding the cost of upgrading the vehicle with modern safety features such as dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes would be too expensive.
Beginning in 1957, Volkswagen produced over 1.5 million Type 2s in Brazil, and to mark the end of production, the company made a special run of 600 cars featuring a special blue and white paint scheme, commemorative plaque and certificate of authenticity.
