Cancer survival prognoses vary depending on at which stage of kidney cancer a person is diagnosed, according to the American Cancer Society. The course kidney cancer takes differs by individual cases and treatments, but observational data provide a guideline for prognoses.
As of 2014, the ACS provides data based on survival-rate observations from the National Cancer Data Base. The data report that 81 percent of those diagnosed with stage I kidney cancer survived at least five years. Seventy-four percent of those with stage II, 53 percent with stage III and 8 percent with stage IV diagnoses lived at least five years. The ACS notes that many of these individuals lived much longer than five years, as well.
