Leiomyosarcoma has a 63 percent five-year survival rate if the cancer is at stage I and is localized to the uterus. Stage II or III leiomyosarcoma that has spread to nearby tissues or lymph nodes has a 36 percent five-year survival rate, as the American Cancer Society explains.

Stage IV leiomyosarcoma that has spread beyond nearby tissues has a 14 percent five-year survival rate, according to the American Cancer Society. Factors that affect an individual's prognosis include the location and size of the tumor when it is initially found, the grade of the carcinoma, and the depth to which it has penetrated lymphatic vascular space, as the National Cancer Institute explains.
