As of 2015, the five-year relative survival rate for all types of ovarian cancer is 45 percent, according to the American Cancer Society. Factors such as cancer grade, the patient's age and general health, type of treatment received, and responsiveness to treatment affect the individual's prognosis.
Women under the age of 65 fare better than younger women, advises the American Cancer Society. When discovery and treatment of ovarian cancer take place before it has spread beyond the ovaries, the five-year relative survival rate is 92 percent. Approximately three out of four women diagnosed with ovarian cancer survive for a minimum of one year after the diagnosis, notes the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
