To use nasal wash, begin by tilting your head so one nostril points downwards, WebMD suggests. Place the spout of the nasal wash vessel into the higher nostril, and then squeeze the bottle gently to allow the wash to flow through your nasal passage and out the other nostril.

The wash carries mucus from the nose as it flows out the nostril, WebMD notes. Repeat this procedure with the other nostril, and then gently blow your nose to clear out any remaining solution.

Using nasal wash once a day helps to eliminate mucus and decrease postnasal drip, WebMD reports. After these symptoms resolve, weekly use of a nasal wash can help keep them from returning.
