Some properties of brass include excellent thermal conductivity, significant strength at low temperatures, the ease at which it bends and an electrical conductivity between 23 and 44 percent of copper's. The term "brass" refers to a metal alloy containing copper and zinc. Some brasses also include other metals, such as nickel and manganese.
Brass comes in a range of colors, such as bronze, gold, yellow and silver. Silver brass contains about 10 to 20 percent nickel. A brass that has 1 percent manganese will become brown when weathered. Brass is often used in jewelry, telecommunication, wires and musical instruments. Because it has good thermal conductivity, brass is typically used in radiators.
