Pumpkin seeds are an exceptionally nutritious food. These seeds contain an abundant amount of zinc, and the World Health Organization recommends eating the seeds to maximize zinc intake.

One-fourth of a cup of pumpkin seeds contains 180 calories and almost 20 percent of the daily recommended amount of protein. This same amount of pumpkin seeds also contains almost 75 percent of the daily value of manganese. In addition to manganese and zinc, pumpkin seeds also contain a large amount of phosphorus, copper, magnesium and iron. The seeds also contain antioxidants in the form of vitamin E, which protect the cells of the body.
