Foundation goes on smoothest if skin is clean, so start with a freshly washed face. Dab on a thin layer of moisturizer before applying the foundation, then let it dry about five minutes.

Put a spot of foundation on the pinkie or ring finger, because they do not have the strength to damage delicate facial skin as much as the other fingers. Lightly rub the foundation on the face, starting with the center-front jawline, and feather the foundation layer upward, onto the nose and forehead and to the back of the face.
