Putka pods are the fruits of the plant glochidion ferdinandi. The small pods resemble pumpkins and can be any color from green to red, depending on how far into the ripening process they are.
The glochidion ferdinandi was first written about and named by Johannes Argviensis, who called it a cheese tree due to its fruits that resemble cheese wheels. The plant is found almost exclusively in Australia, mostly in the eastern section of the country. It is a highly adaptable and fast-growing plant that can thrive in a variety of environments. It can survive in different amounts of sunlight and in different soils. The fruit of the plant is typically eaten by a wide variety of birds.
