Do rabbits sleep?

Rabbits do sleep, although they do not always close their eyes when they do. Rabbits are crepuscular, which means they are most active at dawn and then again at dusk. They like to sleep during the night and during the day.

Rabbits instinctively follow the crepuscular schedule even if they are domestic. They usually wake up with the dawn and stay awake until mid-morning, only to become active again around dusk. In the wild, dawn and dusk are the safest times for rabbits to leave their burrow to feed and socialize as it is easier to see predators approaching when the sun is lower. When they are not feeding, they return to their burrows.
