To read an EPUB, or electronic-publication, file, download the appropriate software compatible with your operating system. EPUB files must be read using third-party software. Find the EPUB file on your computer, and open the file in the software you downloaded.
- Find and download the appropriate EPUB reader
Download an EPUB reader that is compatible with your operating system. The EPUB reader Firefox extension and Calibre are compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems. Adobe Digital Edition works only on Mac and Windows computers.
- Install the software
Once the software is done downloading, follow the onscreen prompts to install the software onto your computer.
- Launch the software
In your Finder or Windows Explorer window, click on the folder that holds your applications. Double-click the software to launch the program. The software opens in a new window.
- Find and open your EPUB file
Click File, then Open in the software interface. This opens a finder window. Navigate your computer's hard drive to locate the EPUB file you wish to read. Select the EPUB file, and click Open. The file opens in the software where you can read it. The way the file appears differs depending on the software you chose to download.
