How do you refinish pressed wood furniture?

Refinish pressed wood furniture by sanding the shiny veneer surface, applying a couple of coats of primer and finishing with two or three coats of paint. The veneer surface on pressed wood must be sanded because it is non-porous and does not absorb at all.

Sanding the veneer off pressed wood furniture removes the shiny appearance so that the primer sticks well. Two or more coats of primer can be applied to ready the surface of the piece for paint. The pressed wood edges should be covered well to prevent the paint from soaking in. After the primer has dried completely, two or three coats of paint can be applied.
