How do you register a homemade trailer in Texas?
By Forinfos - 31/08/2025 - 0 comments
Homemade trailers in Texas only need to be titled if the gross weight exceeds 4,000 lbs., and the process requires proof of ownership, application for certificate of title and a Prescribed Form of Statement of Fact for Ownership of Homemade/Shopemade Trailer application. If the trailer does not exceed 4,000 lbs., it does not need to be titled. However, the DMV still recommends keeping a record for it.
A trailer exceeding 4,000 lbs. will also require a VIN number. The VIN allows the state to keep track of the trailer's whereabouts. It is also useful in protecting trailer owners from thieves.
