What is an REIT ETF?

An REIT ETF is a real estate investment trust exchange traded fund. These securities can be traded or sold like stocks, but they are extremely stable and resistant to inflation.

REITs consist of property portfolios that are sold to investors in shares. Dividends tend to be very low, but because the shares are backed by real estate, values trend upward. ETFs are index funds that are also very stable in most market conditions. An REIT ETF is a fund based on a basket of REIT portfolios designed to track the value of an entire segment of the real estate market. When property prices go up, the REIT ETF also goes up. Very large REIT ETFs are generally the most diversified and stable.
